Hyaluronic acid is a sugar naturally occurring in the body and is found in skin, muscles and tendons. It is responsible for delivering nutrients to the skin and keeping it moist, supple and young. With age, the levels of hyaluronic acid keep depleting resulting in the skin becoming dry. The facial muscles also come closer to the surface of the skin due to other factors and wrinkles start appearing.
What is Juvederm?
Juverderm is a US FDA approved non-surgical collection of fillers primarily consisting of hyaluronic acid. It is synthesised in the laboratory and used my cosmetologists and dermatologists to plump lips, restore volume of facial skin and smooth wrinkles and smile lines among other things. Since it was newly approved, not many are aware of the benefits of Juvederm.
What Can it Treat
Juvederm is ideal for any area of the face and can used to
- Treat lines and creases around the mouth, nose and forehead
- Facial contouring
- Improving appearance of scars
- Acne marks
- Lip augmentation
How is Juvederm Administered
Anyone who wants to get rid of facial lines or is looking for lip augmentation is a candidate for receiving treatment using Juvederm. However, it is not administered to pregnant or nursing females and those with severe allergies.
The treatment process is simple. Before administration of Juvederm the patients are advised to abstain from any anti-inflammatory medication 3 days prior to the treatment and not wear make-up on the day it is going to be administered. Juverderm being a biosynthesised substance, does not require any allergy tests.
It takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete the procedure. It is administered as an injection into the mid to deep dermis depending on the severity of the wrinkles or correction required. Our dermatologists will numb the area with a topical anaesthetic cream to minimize discomfort from the injection. Anyway, the smooth consistency of the Juverderm gel does not leave much scope for discomfort to the patient y enabling the use of thinner needles which cause less pressure.
How does it Work?
The average particle size of Juvederm makes it thicker rendering it more effective compared to other fillers in treating severe wrinkles. It replenishes the lost hyaluronic acid in the sunken areas of the skin thus restoring the volume which in turn smooths out the wrinkles and gives the face or lips a more full and youthful look.
Are the Results Any Good?
Juvederm injections can be administered as an outpatient procedure. The absorption is however, slower than other dermal fillers which makes the result last longer. On an average the results last for 6-9 months and in some patients up to 1 year. The site of the injection may show some swelling but that goes down quickly and the natural radiant look of the skin is restored
